Membership Categories
General Membership
The MDVMA general membership, also known as the active membership, shall consist of graduates of colleges of veterinary medicine who agree to abide by the Principles of Veterinary Medical Ethics of this Association and by the constitution and bylaws of the Association.
Veterinarian
In addition to the General Membership criteria above, the applicant shall be a resident of or licensed to practice medicine in the State of Maryland and must abide by all stipulations of the Maryland State Veterinary Practice Act.
May participate in the business and committee activities and programs of the Association.
May vote in general membership meetings and hold office.
General Membership

Academic / Government Veterinarian
In addition to the General Membership criteria above, the applicant must be employed by a local, state, or federal government, or academic veterinary medical institution and licensed to practice medicine in the State of Maryland.
May participate in the business and committee activities and programs of the Association.
May vote in general membership meetings and hold office.
General Membership

Retired Veterinarian
In addition to the General Membership criteria above, the applicant must be 65 years of age or older at the time of application and have ceased the practice of veterinary medicine completely, and
Must have been an active member of any state VMA for at least ten (10) years, or
Must be physically disabled and not capable of practicing veterinary medicine.
May participate in the committee activities and programs of the Association.
May vote in general membership meetings.
Shall not hold office.
Technician
Any CVT, LVT and RVT applicants must be a certified or licensed veterinary technician in the State of Maryland and employed in a veterinary practice setting.
May participate in the committee activities and programs of the Association.
Shall not vote in or hold office in the Association.
Support Staff
The support staff applicants include unlicensed technicians, assistants, and practice managers and must be employed in a veterinary practice setting.
May participate in the committee activities and programs of the Association.
Shall not vote in or hold office in the Association.
General Membership

Non-Resident Veterinarian
In addition to the General Membership criteria above, the applicant shall be a veterinarian residing and/or working in a state other than Maryland.
May participate in the committee activities and programs of the Association.
Shall not vote in or hold office in the Association.
Veterinary Student
The applicant must be a student currently enrolled in a college/school of veterinary medicine, who maintain a primary residence in the state of Maryland, or
Enrolled in the Virginia Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine.
May participate in the committee activities and programs of the Association.
Shall not vote, hold office, or pay dues.
General Membership

New Graduate
In addition to the General Membership criteria above, the applicant shall be a resident of or licensed to practice medicine in the State of Maryland and must abide by all stipulations of the Maryland State Veterinary Practice Act.
May participate in the committee activities and programs of the Association.
May vote in general membership meetings.
Shall not hold office
Practice memberships must have a minimum of two veterinarians.
