Second version of DHS CISA’s guidance

Second version of DHS CISA’s guidance

The second version of DHS CISA’s guidance has been issued. Notable additions and omissions are as follows (thank you to Ashley Morgan for compiling the summary):

  • Under the Healthcare/Public Health sector, DHS CISA did not add veterinarians to their list of caregivers as AVMA has requested. We will continue to discuss with DHS CISA.
  • Under the Food and Agriculture sector, DHS CISA added language that appears to broaden the veterinary reference (page 7, bullet 2):
    • Animal agriculture workers to include those employed in veterinary health (including those involved in supporting emergency veterinary or livestock services); raising of animals for food; animal production operations; livestock markets; slaughter and packing plants, manufacturers, renderers, and associated regulatory and government workforce.
      • Compared to how the first version’s reference reads: Animal agriculture workers to include those employed in veterinary health; manufacturing and distribution of animal medical materials, animal vaccines, animal drugs, feed ingredients, feed, and bedding, etc.; transportation of live animals, animal medical materials; transportation of deceased animals for disposal; raising of animals for food; animal production operations; slaughter and packing plants and associated regulatory and government workforce. Other components of this earlier bullet have been broken out separately.
  • Under the Food and Agriculture sector, CISA added language that broadens the reference for workers supporting pet retail, including pet food and pet supply (page 6, bullet 1).
    • Workers supporting groceries, pharmacies, convenience stores, and other retail (including unattended and vending) that sells human food, animal/pet food and pet supply, and beverage products, including retail customer support service and information technology support staff necessary for online orders, pickup and delivery.
      • Compared to how the first version’s reference reads: Workers supporting groceries, pharmacies and other retail that sells food and beverage products
  • While there was some tweaking to the sector groupings/titles that is likely of little interest to our work, a notable addition was RESIDENTIAL/SHELTER FACILITIES AND SERVICES (page 14). Under this section, they’ve added Workers in animal shelters (page 15, bullet 3). This group of workers was not noted in Version 1.
  • All other pet/animal/veterinary references appear unchanged

We’ll keep you updated as this guidance evolves. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
